AFTERSCHOOL
2008, Antonio Campos, USA, 107 min.
With Ezra Miller, Jeremy White, Michael Stuhlbarg

Cannes comes to Chicago when cinephiles Adam Kempenaar and Matty Robinson, co-hosts of WBEZ’s popular Filmspotting program, culminate their Cannes Golden Palm Marathon with a screening of AFTERSCHOOL, a selection of the Un Certain Regard section of the 2008 Cannes Film Festival. Written, directed, and edited by Antonio Campos, AFTERSCHOOL was in the running for the Camera d’Or, awarded to the festival’s best first feature film. The film subsequently won critical raves for its story of a disaffected student at an elite prep school who accidentally captures the death of two popular classmates on camera. 35mm.

Director Antonio Campos and actor Michael Stuhlbarg (who also stars in A SERIOUS MAN, playing here Dec. 27-28) join the Filmspotting hosts onstage for a post-screening Q&A covering some of the Cannes Film Festival winners that influenced Campos's work. The audience is invited to a complimentary beer and wine reception in our Gallery/Cafe following the Q&A (valid ticket stub required for entry).

Tickets for this special event are: $15/general admission; $12/Chicago Public Radio members; $10/students with valid ID, and are available only through WBEZ at www.chicagopublicradio.org/Events.
