Hurt McDermott in person!
BLACK MAIL
2009, Hurt McDermott, USA, 100 min.
With Taylor Nichols, Kelley Hazen, Mattie Hawkinson
The owner of a struggling movie house stumbles into starring in his own farce when his obsession with an unattainable woman threatens to sink his marriage after his wife suspects the wrong woman. Further complications develop in this droll comedy of manners loosely based on Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing when it turns out that the wife has a cynical suitor and the couple’s babelicious baby-sitter shares the same name as the disinterested love interest, who has a bad-seed twin sister with a talent for extortion. Chicago’s venerable (but now closed) Three Penny Cinema, the Bourgeois Pig Café, and other DePaul locations figure prominently in this new made-in-Chicago film by award-winning writer/director Hurt McDermott (NIGHTINGALE IN A MUSIC BOX). HDCAM video. (BS)
