Chicago premiere! Academy Award nominee for Best Animated Feature!

"Unequivocally the best animated film of the year!" – Carlos Aguilar, Indiewire

"Dazzlingly colorful and alive … a constant wonder and joy to behold." – Christy Lemire, RogerEbert.com

"A jaw-dropping sketch of towering cities and mechanized factories that brings in dark wit and satire without abandoning the child’s wonder." – Nicolas Rapold, The New York Times

An innocent child’s bewildered view of life and change has the cumulative force of a magnificently universal work of art that handily links joyful discovery with the harder realities of a cockeyed world. Brazilian animator Abreu takes his Everychild boy, a vulnerable stick-figure, on a journey from life in the country to the smoky, densely populated chaos of the big city in search of his dad amid Brazil’s working poor. Wonders and horrors are evoked in a brilliant flood of hand-drawn imagery reminiscent of artists as diverse as Joan Miró and Fritz Lang. Dialogue is rendered only in nonsense syllables, and a vibrant Latin-flavored score by Ruben Feffer and Gustavo Kurlat serves to briskly connect the complex themes of eye-opening perception. Suitable for all ages. DCP digital. A GKids release. (BS)
