“Visually hypnotic, musically electric...breathtakingly beautiful.”
—Stephen Farber, Hollywood Reporter

Glorious Cuban music and a turbulent love affair with more than a splash of salsa are at the heart of this soulful animated saga that takes a 60-year star-crossed romance from 1948 Havana to New York and the Las Vegas Strip. Legendary Cuban pianist, bandleader and composer Bebo Valdés created the original soundtrack for this jazzy story of Chico, a Havana nightclub pianist, who recognizes the woman of his dreams in sultry chanteuse Rita. Other women, other men, the Cuban Revolution, and the elusive lure of stardom play havoc with love, but some dreams never die. Co-directed by Oscar-winning Fernando Trueba (BELLE EPOQUE), CHICO & RITA is a warm and sensual Valentine to Cuba’s vibrant musical tradition. Nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. In Spanish with English subtitles. 35mm. (BS)
