"We’ve seen other films about fans setting out to meet a famous idol — a reclusive singer or movie star or writer, for example. But few of these movies have the charm of COMING THROUGH THE RYE...Chris Cooper has a superb cameo as Salinger." — Stephen Farber, Hollywood Reporter

"Even if you’ve never read the novel (really?), Wolff’s spot-on performance is worthwhile...Wolff is the genuine thing. To borrow from Holden’s vernacular, the kid is no phony." — Steve Davis, Austin Chronicle

Emmy-winning TV director Sadwith (SINATRA) based this coming-of-age story cum road movie, his first theatrical film, on his own experiences as a 16-year-old in 1969. His fictional alter-ego Jamie Schwartz (Wolff) is a prep-school student whose intense identification with Holden Caulfield inspires him to write a slavishly faithful stage adaptation of "The Catcher in the Rye." Determined to produce the play at school, he sets out to obtain permission from the notoriously inaccessible J.D. Salinger.
Joined on his quest by a girl (Owen) far more sensible than himself, he searches for the elusive author along the back roads of New Hampshire, while coming to grips with his own immaturity and overly derivative identity. Writer-director Sadwith displays verve and charm in telling a story obviously close to his heart, with authentic 16-year-olds Wolff and Owen impressive in their roles, and Oscar-winner Cooper (ADAPTATION) superb as the legendary J.D.
