The School of the Art Institute of Chicago scores big at Cannes
Two alumni from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago walked away with big prizes at the closing of the Cannes Film Festival. Most notably, Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul better known as "Joe," won the highest honor at Cannes, the Palme D'Or for his film "Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives". Joe is not only an alum of SAIC but he was a projectionist at the Gene Siskel Film Center. Hong Sang-soo, another School of the Art Institute of Chicago alum has received the top award in the section, Un Certain Regard, for his new film, "HaHaHa".
A great day for all of us at the Gene Siskel Film Center and the School of the Art Institute. Congratulations to Joe and Hung!
