Opening with scenes of Black Friday bargain-hunters gloating over their cartloads of made-in-China electronics and toys, DEATH BY CHINA, based on Peter Navarro’s book of the same title, takes a hard-hitting look at the disastrous trade imbalance that has brought Americans a never-ending stream of cheap consumer goods at the cost of American jobs. Spreading the blame, the film details how heads of major corporations, both political parties, and every Washington administration since Nixon have succumbed to China’s siren call, choosing to overlook the totalitarian regime’s currency manipulation, use of child and slave labor, and a host of other tactics anathema to a free market economy.
