Director Komandarev (Oscar short-listed THE WORLD IS BIG AND SALVATION LURKS AROUND THE CORNER) brings poignancy and a zesty sense of humor to an episodic drama set in the streets of Sofia, and unfolding in a series of taxi rides that reveal stories both black-humorous and tragic. While a shocking murder-suicide monopolizes the talk-radio airwaves, five tuned-in drivers meet up with fares through the night, ranging from a frisky businessman on an extramarital adventure to an unemployed teacher with a death wish, a doctor on an urgent mission, and a moonlighting priest. Disillusionment, betrayal and despair play out in a panorama of emotion balanced by the film's profound humanism. In Bulgarian with English subtitles. Courtesy of Arri Media. DCP digital widescreen. (BS)

March 9: Immediately following the Opening Night film and program, the audience is invited to a reception in our Gallery/Café generously hosted by Dr. Ivan Anchev, Consul General of The Republic of Bulgaria.
