“A funny, tear-jerking, heartwarming movie in the best Hollywood narrative tradition…massively entertaining.” — Paul Weissman, Film-Forward

“[A] crowd-pleaser adept at inspiring and amusing in equal measure…a light touch that allows for flashes of pointed comedy.” — Nick Schager, Variety

A women’s revolt in a small town harks back to the early-Seventies days of women’s lib in a cheering story that delivers winsome comedy with a timely ironic bite and a hint of nostalgia. It’s men against the women in 1971 in the Swiss Alps, where women are still denied the vote and are subject to their husbands in all things by law. In timidly shedding her primness and celebrating with a trendy haircut, Nora (Leuenberger), fed-up wife and mother of two, accidentally becomes what passes for a feminist firebrand, teaming up with a closet-revolutionary matriarch and a shunned Italian divorcee to rally female friends and neighbors in pursuit of autonomy, equality, and orgasms. Director Volpe lets the good times roll for the newly bonded women, but things come to a head when the angry husbands invade an all-girl sleepover involving the majority of the female population. In German, English, Italian, and Swiss German with English subtitles. DCP digital widescreen. (BS)
