"A lovingly crafted class act." – Deborah Young, Hollywood Reporter

"Like A CAT IN PARIS or SITA SINGS THE BLUES, EXTRAORDINARY TALES reminds viewers that animation can enable an artist to realize an individual vision, even on a limited budget." – Charles Solomon, Los Angeles Times

Five of Edgar Allan Poe’s most famous and thrilling suspense tales are animated in styles uniquely suited to the mood of each story. Poe himself, in the form of a raven, contemplates eternity in conversations with Lady Death, in a framing narrative to: “The Fall of the House of Usher” (its angular style evoking expressionist wood-carvings; voiced by Christopher Lee), “The Tell-Tale Heart” (etched in stark black-and-white; voiced by Bela Lugosi), “The Facts in the Case of Mr. Valdemar” (rendered in comic-book style; voiced by Julian Sands), “The Pit and the Pendulum” (visuals inspired by the look of 19th-century photography; voiced by Guillermo del Toro), and “The Masque of the Red Death” (animated in a style inspired by the paintings of Egon Schiele and Bruegel; voiced by Roger Corman). DCP digital. (BS)
