"Shattering drama, wrapped in the clothing of a very tense, slow-boiling thriller." - Peter Martin, Screen Anarchy

"An undercurrent of humor runs through FIRSTBORN, but it runs very deep…sports a gorgeous and refined aesthetic." - Emmet Duff, Goomba Stomp

A thriller that intricately chronicles the dissolution of a marriage of opposites, FIRSTBORN is set in the world of effete urban couples, the kind of people who sip cocktails in the living room while watching their kids reenact Noh drama. Francis, a bookish intellectual, and his wife Katrina are accosted and robbed by a biker while walking home tipsy one night from just such a party. The humiliating incident poses a double threat and a psychic challenge to the husband's shaken sense of manhood when it is followed by the announcement of Katrina's long-hoped-for pregnancy, and by a police investigation led by a detective who just happens to be her old boyfriend. In Latvian with English subtitles. Courtesy of Reel Suspects. DCP digital widescreen. (BS)
