“Impassioned...[a] call to arms about sustainable food and the dangers behind monocultures.”—Aaron Hillis, Village Voice
“Makes a beeline past the manure lagoons, veal crates, contaminated food and monocultures to land us in truly greener pastures.”—Kerry Trueman, Huffington Post

Alternative agriculture vs. industrial farming is a hot topic these days, but FRESH takes a fresher approach, trumping the specters of disaster that lurk in supermarket aisles with a revised vision for our food sources. For an all-inclusive approach to a sustainable food chain, director Joanes focuses on three initiatives with the promise to change the face of American agriculture: the Growing Power urban farm in Milwaukee, providing nutrition from acres of former industrial wasteland; a Kansas City supermarket cooperative stocking only the products of local farmers; and Joe Salatin’s unique Shenandoah Valley farm, celebrated in Michael Pollan’s The Omnivore’s Dilemma. The 5:45 pm Saturday screening will be followed by a Q&A with board members of the Evanston/Skokie-based The Talking Farm. The mission of The Talking Farm is to operate a sustainable urban agricultural enterprise that provides fresh and locally-grown food, job training and environmental education, and related research.
