"Gorgeously shot and engaging from beginning to end, GOD'S OWN COUNTRY is the kind of gay film more people should be making. The documentary-style farm scenes elevate it far beyond traditional gay dramas, and it doesn’t make the mistake of confusing tragedy with quality." — Jude Dry, Indiewire

“Finally, a movie that sets BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN straight…confronts the complexity of sexual adventure and release.” — Armond White, Out Magazine

The awe-inspiringly rugged landscape of the North Yorkshire moors forms the backdrop to a rough-edged love story between two men who ultimately negotiate a passionate truce across a steep divide of culture and resistance. Johnny (O’Connor), wayward son and reluctant heir to a hardscrabble farm, is prisoner to the needs of the land, his ailing father, and the secret that leads him to drunken one-night stands in town with male strangers. The arrival of Gheorge (Secareanu), a skilled Romanian hired hand, brings a flood of resentment to the surface, but offers a path to Johnny’s redemption when the two young men, one unabashedly tender in his confident masculinity, the other emotionally stunted, are thrown together through the harsh cycle of the seasons.
