"Blurs the line between fantasy and reality…an offbeat, beautifully shot thriller." - Deborah Young, Hollywood Reporter
"A malevolent story twisted into a rural nightmare with the same intricacy and mind-bending sensibilities of a vintage Polanski thriller." - Kyle Kohner, The Playlist
A scruffy long-haired stranger walks into a farming village looking for seasonal work, but the locals turn their backs until a quickie that night with Lucy, (Krieps) the mayor's flirty blonde daughter, turns the tide. Jens (Lau) is not exactly what he seems, but neither are the neighbors in the close-knit community that now welcomes him with a job as a harvest hand, a place to stay, and wary companionship, now that he and Lucy are an item. Director Van Maele fosters a creeping sense of dread in this edgy thriller, letting ominous details including a mysteriously abandoned house, a near-fatal accident in a cornfield, and a batch of crudely erotic photos of local women signal that the unknown is right around the corner. The clues point in disparate directions, and don't add up…until they do. In Luxembourgish and German with English subtitles. Courtesy of Dark Star Pictures. DCP digital widescreen. (BS)
