"The real secret of the production is the clown jewel performance of James Corden…grown men were reduced to sobbing puddles of hilarity." — Charles McNulty, Los Angeles Times

"Both satanic and seraphic, dirty-minded and utterly innocent…letting loose and neutralizing all sorts of demons, it’s ideal escapism for anxious times." — Ben Brantley, The New York Times

In Richard Bean’s English version of Goldini’s classic Italian comedy, sex, food, and money are high on the agenda. Fired from his skiffle band, Francis Henshall (Corden) becomes minder to Roscoe Crabbe (Rooper), a smalltime East End hood, now in Brighton to collect £6,000 from his fiancée’s dad. But Roscoe is really his sister Rachel posing as her own dead brother, who has been killed by her boyfriend Stanley Stubbers (Chris). Holed up at The Cricketer’s Arms, the permanently ravenous Francis spots the chance for an extra meal ticket and takes a second job with Stubbers. DCP digital. (Description courtesy of NT Live)
