“Rare depths of personal and sensual detail…sublimely compassionate, heart-crushing.” — Guy Lodge, Variety

“So staggering in its emotional intensity…it will make your heart sore, then soar.” — Andrew Robertson, Eye For Film

The visual poetry of ocean, sky, and the euphoria of first love provides entrée into director Quillévéré’s (SUZANNE, LOVE LIKE POISON) powerfully emotional vision of life balanced on the knife-edge of tragedy, based on Maylis de Kerangal’s internationally acclaimed novel. An accident happens in a flash, and a teenager lies brain-dead, his body paradoxically vital and bursting with youth. A young doctor (Rahim of A PROPHET) must lead the boy’s grief-stricken estranged parents Marianne (Seigner, of VENUS IN FUR) and Vincent (French rapper Kool Shen) to the next step. Sensitive, understated performances and a many-faceted plot take this story out of the realm of mere medical drama and into a metaphysical mystery in which unseen forces cause life to go on in unexpected ways. In French with English subtitles. DCP digital. (BS)
