"The scandal of Cannes...a breathtaking immersion in Parisian brothel life circa 1900."
—Ben Kenigsberg, Time Out Chicago
Sisterhood is the poignant underlying theme of this richly evoked historical drama set during the final gilded months of L’Apollonide, a Parisian brothel catering to a wealthy clientele. In its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, director Bonello’s anachronistic approach caused comment, but his meticulous faithfulness to the décor and costume of the period prevail, making his film a treat for the eyes. Two key events are central to the evolving story: the arrival of a 16-year-old farm girl from the countryside, and the brutal knife attack on one of the most beautiful of the courtesans by her patron. In French with English subtitles. HDCAM video. (BS)
