"An intimate, sometimes fascinating look at Akerman's nearly 50-year career as a major figure in feminist and avant-garde cinema ... may challenge your notion of what movies are supposed to do." – Adam Morgan, Chicago Reader

"Lambert, a colleague of Akerman’s, is especially good at divining the handful of Akerman’s great themes." – Ray Pride, Newcity

"Offers important context to those who are unfamiliar with Akerman while offering insight into her methodology." – Justine Smith, Indiewire

I DON’T BELONG ANYWHERE didn’t set out to be a eulogy for Belgian feminist director Chantal Akerman’s career, but her tragic 2015 death by suicide casts it as a timely and invaluable record of a brilliant career and a fitting companion piece to Akerman’s own final film NO HOME MOVIE. A wealth of clips from films including JEANNE DIELMAN, NEWS FROM HOME, THE RENDEZ-VOUS OF ANNA, FROM THE EAST, and FROM THE OTHER SIDE trace the development of an innovative aesthetic that made her a critically acclaimed master by the age of twenty-five. Director Lambert brings astute insight into themes of Akerman’s work, and to the director’s profoundly complex relationship with her mother, her national identity, and the concept of home. In French with English subtitles. DCP digital. (BS)
