India's Daughter

2015, Leslee Udwin, UK/India, 63 min.

Show Times

  • Wed, Sep 23rd 8:00pm
Chicago premiere! Leslee Udwin in person!

The brutal 2012 gang rape on a bus – resulting in the death of Indian medical student Jyoti Singh – triggered outrage around the world and exposed the darkest aspects of a male-dominated culture. Leslee Udwin’s searing INDIA’S DAUGHTER investigates the tragedy and includes shocking interviews with the unrepentant rapists. The film ignited controversy anew and was banned in India, even as debates and protests around the issues of misogyny and violence against women erupted on an international scale. In English and Hindi with English subtitles. DCP digital. (BS)

SEPTEMBER 23: Director Leslee Udwin will be present for audience discussion.
