"The funniest, craziest, dirtiest, most perversely beautiful science-fiction movie ever made." - David Denby, New York Magazine

"At last, after sitting out the DVD and streaming eras, Slava Tsukerman's 1982 neon-fired New Wave New York alien sex-party punk-disco orgasm-as-revenge proto-electroclash feminist genderfuck is on screens in its finest form, scrubbed and crisp and gorgeous, ready to baffle, disquiet, thrill, and trigger." - Alan Scherstuhl, Village Voice

Coming out of nowhere in 1982, LIQUID SKY not only drew SRO crowds at midnight-movie flagships around the country, but also captured the near-unanimous acclaim of mainstream critics from The New York Times to Time Magazine. After decades of unavailability, it is now back in a dazzling new 4K restoration. A heady mixture of high style, deadpan wit, and tabloid fantasy, the film brings together No Wave subculture and science-fiction gimmickry in an alien-on-alien configuration drenched with garish smears of neon, dayglo, psychedelia, and sunset. A space junkie, roughly the size of a jumbo shrimp, roams the cosmos in a dish-sized UFO, searching for heroin or a chemical surrogate produced in the human brain during orgasm. He/she/they finds a mother lode of both substances at the downtown Manhattan rooftop apartment of Margaret, a model who is both witness and victim to a wide variety of perverse and degrading acts. In a legendary performance, Anne Carlisle plays both the female and male leads with ferocious conviction. New 4K DCP digital restoration. (MR)
