“Sachs has few, if any, peers in American filmmaking when it comes to low-key tact and gentle insight.” — Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune

“Rich with seductive design, a jewel setting for the tender trapped gestures of each performance…humane drama of rare intimacy.” — Ray Pride, Newcity

A grandfather dies and everything changes for shy, 13-year-old Jake (Theo Taplitz), who moves with his off-Broadway actor dad (Kinnear) and psychotherapist mom (Ehle) to their newly inherited Brooklyn apartment over a storefront. Instant friendship happens with brash, streetwise Tony (Michael Barbieri), son of Leonor (García), the Latino seamstress who is the store’s longtime tenant. Rising property values and gentrification suggest that the solution to the family’s financial woes is letting the store at market rate, but there’s the delicate problem of Leonor’s struggling little business, and the even more vexing problem of Jake and Tony. Director Sachs (LOVE IS STRANGE) brings abundant affection for each of his characters to a story acutely focused on the contradictions of human nature and the complications triggered by class, money, and ambition.
