Chicago premiere!
Newly restored!

  1. A TRIP TO THE MOON
  1. (LE VOYAGE DANS LA LUNE)
  2. 1902, Georges Méliès, France, 15 min.

The success of Martin Scorsese’s HUGO and the 2008 release of Flicker Alley’s superb box set have renewed interest in Georges Méliès, not only as one of cinema’s most important pioneers but also as a superb filmmaker whose imaginative fantasies have lost little of their ability to amaze and entertain. Now, to enhance the Méliès revival, the original color version of his most famous film, A TRIP TO THE MOON, long thought to be lost, has been restored to its dazzling glory. Following this newly restored version of A TRIP TO THE MOON is a lively and informative new documentary that tells the story of the film’s nearly miraculous resurrection, recaps Méliès’s colorful career, and includes assessments of his importance by such admirers as Michel Hazanavicius, Michel Gondry, and Jean-Pierre Jeunet . In French and English with English subtitles. 35mm (A TRIP TO THE MOON) and HDCAM video. (MR)
