"Simple, elegant, yet harrowing...Highly recommended." - Chris Knipp, Writing: Movies, Politics, Art

"Mélanie Thierry leaps towards the front echelon of current French actresses with her riveting turn as Marguerite Duras." - Neil Young, Hollywood Reporter

This haunting account of the anxieties of life during wartime is based on the semifictional memoir by Marguerite Duras (HIROSHIMA, MON AMOUR; The Lover). Active in the French resistance during the Nazi Occupation, Duras (Thierry of THE PRINCESS OF MONTPENSIER) is desperate for news of her husband, who has been captured by the Gestapo. She is befriended by a courtly, highly placed collaborator (Magimel of THE PIANO TEACHER) and engages him in a tense cat-and-mouse game to gain information - until the liberation strands her in a limbo of uncertainty, shared with other women awaiting news of their long-absent loved ones. French-Jewish director Finkiel (VOYAGES), whose own family history has much in common with Duras's experiences, employs an intensely subjective style to convey the protagonist's journey through isolation and doubt. In French with English subtitles. DCP digital. (MR)
