“A meticulously drawn tapestry of universal themes within a setting that’s as unique as it is familiar.” — Jared Mobarak, The Film Stage

“Beautifully made, hilarious and touching.” — Shaun Walker, Guardian

Moscow comes to vibrant life in a sequence of interlocking dramas that tumble into each other over the twenty-four hours of a holiday. Irish director O’Reilly, a former Muscovite, brings a Chekhovian sense of storytelling to a sprawling tale that reveals the city’s sparkling public face, even as the underside reveals corruption, comedy, and heartbreak. A hard-nosed real estate wheeler-dealer (Serebryakov of LEVIATHAN) meets his match in wily Putin pals, while his pop-star trophy girlfriend sweats a prime gig, pursued by her passionately pleading ex. A has-been comedian at death’s door slips the grasp of wife and mistress, only to run afoul of kidnappers. A grandmother fears her fate at the hands of callous family, while two quarreling sisters bond over a pickup gone wrong. In Russian with English subtitles. DCP digital. (BS)
