Filmed in large part at Versailles, MOZART’S SISTER brings the composer’s older sister Nannerl out of the shadow of her brother’s fame, if only for the length of this sumptuous drama. Director Féret follows the loving but strictly managed Mozart family on their climb to fame throughout the capitals of Europe, where young Wolfgang is promoted as a genius, but the multi-talented Nannerl (Féret, the director's daughter), a composer, singer, harpsichordist and violinist, is firmly relegated to the role of accompanist. Her star rises with a fateful gender-bending friendship with the French Dauphin that threatens to change the course of musical history. In French with English subtitles. 35mm. (BS)
