"Wonderful...Bong [is] one of the great visual storytellers working in movies today." — A.O. Scott, The New York Times

“Genre-defying…manages to be so many things at once — a caustic satire of corporate evil, an intercontinental action/adventure epic, a coming-of-age narrative.” — Zach Schonfeld, Newsweek

The multiple global issues of animal rights, hunger, and environmentalism never had a wackier friend than director Bong (SNOWPIERCER), who turns a seemingly family-friendly laugh-laden saga about a little girl and her adorable oversized pig into a scathing satire on corporate greed. A slick CEO (Swinton) announces that her family-owned company is developing a breed of super-pig which will become the answer to world hunger. Fast-forward ten years, and one of the trial pigs, the hippo-sized companion of Korean teenager Mija (Ahn), is ready for the slaughter, unbeknown to his loving human. The satire ramps up with rollicking action, antics by corporate drones, and a harrowing pig-napping, but Bong’s sharpest cuts are yet to come when Okja arrives in New York. Initially confined to online viewing, OKJA has been made available for theatrical exhibition for a limited time, the better to savor its rambunctious, widescreen pleasures. In English, Korean, and Spanish with English subtitles. DCP digital widescreen. (BS)
