First Chicago run!

"Cerebral and heartrending." – Andrea Gronvall, Chicago Reader

"Considers life at its most honest and sublime." – Kathleen Sachs, Cine-File

"Deceptively simple, extraordinarily powerful ... one can’t imagine a more fitting final film from this giant of cinema." – Michael Smith, Time Out Chicago

"Formally demanding and impossibly intimate … serves as an elegy to that sense of home that disappeared." — Peter Debruge, Variety

In what was to become her final film, Akerman (JEANNE DIELMAN) charts the final days of her own mother Natalia, an Auschwitz survivor long exiled from the land of her birth and distanced from the faith of her fathers. The tight confinement of Natalia’s Brussels apartment stands in contrast to the film’s uncompromising free form in which seemingly random views and conversations have a cumulative power to reveal a deeply intimate and loving portrait of a woman whose sense of loss has left her without an anchor in this world. In French, Hebrew, and Spanish with English subtitles. DCP digital. (BS)
