“An insightful teen drama that adroitly tackles a whole slew of issues such as homophobia, bullying and date-rape sex.” — Roger Walker-Dack, Queer Guru

New kid Lorenzo’s in-your-face gayness provokes hostility among his high-school classmates but sparks a volatile odd-trio bond with two other outcasts: Blu, a cynical “school slut” and aspiring novelist, and Antonio, a taciturn, antisocial basketball player. Director Cotroneo (screenwriter for the previous CEUFF hits I AM LOVE and A FIVE STAR LIFE) counterpoints his serious social themes with a tone of high-spirited rebellion, but he proves just as adept at shifting gears with gut-punch effectiveness. The film is dominated by the flamboyant Lorenzo and his pop-song-fueled fantasies, but the last word belongs to Blu, the writer, to show how heartbreakingly easy it would have been for things to have ended differently. In Italian with English subtitles. Courtesy of TLA Releasing. DCP digital widescreen. (MR)
