An uneasy father-son rivalry comes to a head against the violent background of Chad’s civil war when paternal love becomes fatally tinged with jealousy. Adam and his son Abdel work as attendants at the swimming pool of a swanky hotel. When dad is demoted to gatekeeper and the son promoted to pool supervisor, the still-virile former swimming champ publicly swallows his pride but forms a secret plan to teach his strutting progeny a lesson. Winner of the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, and a Silver Hugo at the 2010 Chicago International Film Festival. In French and Arabic with English subtitles. 35mm widescreen. (BS)
