“Seduces the eye with exactly the kind of beauty we’ve come to expect from the Spanish auteur.”
—Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly

“Exhilarating…an intoxicating, lush mystery.”
—Manohla Dargis, The New York Times

Like a mad scientist with his test tubes, director Almodóvar (VOLVER, ALL ABOUT MY MOTHER) blends genres, influences, and bizarre plot twists for a dark and elegant riff on the French horror classic EYES WITHOUT A FACE, among other cinematic homages. Star Antonio Banderas returns to Almodóvar’s stable of actors to play Robert Legrand, a plastic surgeon obsessed with perfecting the synthetic skin he has created. A beautiful young patient is imprisoned in his house, secrets from the past refuse to stay buried, and the longtime housekeeper holds the keys to Legrand’s closet full of metaphoric skeletons. In Spanish with English subtitles. 35mm. (BS)

I saw this in Madrid. It is a work of art. An homage to Frankenstein -- but with singular Almadovar visuals and plot twists. Not to be missed. His best, for me, since Talk to Her.
