Chicago premiere!

  1. SUMMER WARS
  1. (SAMA WOZU)
  2. 2010, Mamoru Hosoda, Japan, 114 min.

“Spectacular…visionary--and surprisingly moving to boot.”
—Peter Debruge, Variety

“Fresh, contemporary and dazzlingly imaginative…the future king of Japanese animation may be with us.”
—Mark Schilling, Japan Times

In this animé delight by director Hosoda (THE GIRL WHO LEPT THROUGH TIME), a former protégé of Hayao Miyazaki, a rousing sci-fi plot in which a world-domination scheme centers on a social networking website is thrillingly au courant in its projections and perils. Young math prodigy Kenji is tricked into pretending to be the fiancé of his secret crush Natsuki at her grandmother’s family reunion birthday party, just as an evil A.I. takes the universally popular online world Oz hostage and shuts down all of the real world’s communication systems. A killer satellite is hurtling toward the earth, but will Kenji’s way with numbers, Natsuki’s card tricks, and the gaming skills of her computer-geek cousin Kazuma be enough to save the world? In English, or in Japanese with English subtitles at selected shows; see note below. HDCAM video. (BS)

Thank you for bringing Summer Wars to Chicago! It's wonderful that people will have the chance to see this amazing film on the big screen, where it belongs!

I honestly saw this subbed recently and am now planning to watch the Chicago screening this week. It's really great. Thanks guys!

Yeah but sadly it wont be in Florida so I don't get to see this amazing movie. Its said to be very good and I really want to see it!

Simply put, this movie was amazing. I laughed, I cried, and I left the theater feeling lucky to have been given a heads up on the screening. Don't give it a second thought. Take the bus, take the train; do what you must to catch this movie before it slips away from Chicago. It's worth every bit to see it on the big screen.
