“A bold and unconventional thriller…committed to exploring the ugliness beneath the surface —of Western culture, of traditional gender roles, and of the institution of marriage.”—Peter Debruge, Variety

“A staggering accomplishment in its storytelling, visuals, and performance…develops from a satirical fairy tale to heartfelt drama with unprecedented grace.”—Lena Wilson, The Playlist

A stunning, slow-burning tale of a woman’s journey to regain control of her body, her mind, and her past, SWALLOW reaches for a different experience in feminist storytelling. New bride Hunter (Bennett, winner of Best Actress at the TriBeca Film Festival) married to rising young executive Richie (Stowell), is treated by her husband as mere arm-candy, a former salesclerk seemingly courted only for her model-like perfection. Sequestered in a home that is an architectural gem overlooking the Hudson River, with a wardrobe to match, Hunter languishes bewildered through endlessly blank stretches of time, awaiting her husband’s pleasure. When she becomes pregnant, Richie’s wealthy family tightens their oversight. One day, she begins to ingest strange and dangerous little trophies of rebellion. It starts with a pretty glass marble...
