"Fun and gossipy in the way that great documentaries about Hollywood often are, but it also speaks to a deeper truth... Even if you have no idea who Tab Hunter is, this documentary is riveting and insightful." – Drew Taylor, The Playlist

“I am happy to be forgotten,” says the still strikingly handsome 83-year-old ex-movie star. But those of a certain age certainly remember Tab Hunter, whose screen name made him something of a cultural joke, even as his pop hits (“Young Love”) and All-American good looks made him a teen idol, and his closeted but active gayness made him vulnerable to the moral watchdogs of the Eisenhower Era. The quietly spellbinding Hunter reveals an offscreen persona far more substantial than any of his movie roles, as he tells his life story in this lively, visually inventive documentary by the award-winning director of VITO and I AM DIVINE. With unflinching, self-deprecating candor, Hunter recalls his Hollywood heyday, his studio-concocted romances with the likes of Natalie Wood and Debbie Reynolds, his real but clandestine relationships with men including Anthony Perkins, his struggle to survive in the purgatory of dinner theater and cheesy B-movies, his redefining comeback in John Waters’s POLYESTER, and his late-life achievement of hard-won serenity. NOVEMBER 27: Tab Hunter will discuss the film via Skype at the Friday screening. Moderating the discussion will be Steve “Capone” Prokopy, Chicago film editor of Ain’t It Cool News and film critic for Gapers Block.
