“Features the now-classic elements of New Romanian Cinema…a coolly observational tenor and close attention to unexpected detail.” — Dennis Harvey, Variety
“Fans of world cinema owe it to themselves to see THE FIXER…draws upon subdued and natural performances to create a stark world of unflinching authenticity.” — Pat Mullen, Cinemablographer
A ruthlessly ambitious journalism intern crosses a series of ethical lines in a maneuver to advance his career when he pulls strings to set up an interview with an abused child prostitute being shielded from the press. Director Sitaru (HOOKED) balances the sensationalism of the subject matter with an engagingly detailed chronicle of the chain of circumstances, favors, and misrepresentations that allow Radu (Istodor) to play kingpin in arranging for a French TV crew to cover his investigative coup. Push-back from the girl’s protective handlers and danger posed by the powerful sex-trafficking ring that had kidnapped her spur him to heedlessly escalate backdoor methods in pursuit of his goal. In Romanian and French with English subtitles. Courtesy of MPM Film Sales. DCP digital widescreen. (BS)
