"A gripping dive into the shadows...eschews the action trappings for delicate character work, escalating psychological tension, and sheer nastiness." — Brent McKnight, Seattle Times

"THE OATH begins as merely involving, but as its emotional intensity pulls you deeper into its spiraling vortex of scheming, it soon becomes utterly compelling." — Andrew Marshall, Starburst

After a side trip to big-budget Hollywood (CONTRABAND, EVEREST), Icelandic auteur Kormákur (101 REYKJAVIK, JAR CITY) returns to home ground for this taut, gripping thriller. THE OATH could be seen as the anti-TAKEN, with the heart-surgeon protagonist (well-played by Kormákur himself) taking the law into his own hands in the hope of rescuing his wayward daughter from the clutches of her drug-dealer boyfriend. But we're in Nordic noir territory here, where the moral compass is twisted and the consequences of vigilantism increasingly dire. In Icelandic with English subtitles. DCP digital widescreen. (MR)
