"Tells a stark, elemental story in startlingly unconventional fashion…marks the arrival of a distinctively talented young filmmaker." — Frank Scheck, Hollywood Reporter
"A bold work…a film of great emotional impact." — Vladan Petkovic, Cineuropa
Slovenia’s official submission for Academy Awards consideration is a story of tautly mounting tension told from three different perspectives. A mother and her two sons — teenage Alek and young Veli — live as virtual prisoners behind the high courtyard walls of their small house. Filmmaker Prosenc employs the harsh clarity of constant sunlight as a foil to the mounting mystery of the little family’s shadowy fear of their neighbors. The secret slowly unravels with intimations of ancient customs, blood feud, and ethnic hatred. In Slovenian with English subtitles. Courtesy of Monoo Film Production. DCP digital widescreen. (BS)
