"The most alluringly strange movie of the year so far...Once it wraps its tentacles around you, THE UNTAMED doesn’t let go — and you might not want it to." — Michael Nordine, Indiewire

“Does that very rare thing in cinema…blends mystery, horror and pseudo-reality with a kind of dark subconscious arousal.” — Rory O’Connor, The Film Stage

Darkly dangerous erotic desires, a violent forbidden love triangle, and a sci-fi-tinged plot are the elements that daringly edgy director Escalante (HELI) brings together in a bizarre tale that creates its own mythology. A sexual encounter with someone or something unseen ends badly for a young woman, who nonetheless comes to confide the source of her pleasure to Fabian (Eden Villavicencio), the doctor friend who treats her wounds. Fabian is having a furtive affair with the brutish homophobic husband Angel (Meza) of his sister Ale (Ramos), but brother and sister are each separately lured by a secret presence in the woods, and the promise of pleasure beyond this world. Escalante ventures into shivery territory with surreal imagery that puts him in a league with Zulawski, Von Trier, and Reygadas. In Spanish with English subtitles. DCP digital. (BS)
