For more than four decades Jean-Marie Straub and the late Danièle Huillet produced personal and politically engaged films based on plays, novels, and political writings. This program is a rare US screening of Straub and Huillet’s final project together,THE ITINERARY OF JEAN BRICARD (2008), a haunting adaptation of Jean-Yves Petiteau's non-fiction story of a French resistance fighter. Also screening are Straub’s subsequent adaptations works by the Italian writer Cesare Pavese: ARTEMIS’ KNEE (2008) and THE WITCHES: WOMEN AMONG THEMSELVES (2009).
