"The French have a knack for it. They've been making funny and agreeable movie farces for forever, and seeing THE WOMEN ON THE 6TH FLOOR makes you hope they'll never stop."
—Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times

"Lighter than a meringue and as insubstantial, the French boulevard comedy THE WOMEN ON THE 6TH FLOOR was designed for the gentle laughter it easily earns."
—Manohla Dargis, The New York Times

Set in the 1960s, this sunny French soufflé is seasoned with a touch of social awakening and served up by a superb cast led by the expert farceur Luchini (CLAIRE'S KNEE, POTICHE). He plays Jean-Louis, a stuffy stockbroker whose staid life is turned upside-down when his high-strung wife (Kiberlain) hires a young Spanish maid (the lovely Verbeke). Jean-Louis discovers that she lives with a group of Spanish maids (including Almodóvar regulars Carmen Maura and Lola Dueñas) in the humble heights of the 6th floor--an earthy and exuberant alternative universe that awakens his dormant social consciousness and disrupts his marriage. In French and Spanish with English subtitles. 35mm. (MR)
