In this colorful drama set in a striking Tanzanian landscape, a wife and mother defies tradition and her wastrel husband to protect her daughter from being sold into an arranged marriage. In a culture where women perform the labor but their men make the decisions and reap the rewards, Fatuma (Taisamo) raises the finest crop in the region through her own back-breaking labor, but she dreams that her girl Neema (Credo) will go to the university. Husband and father Manyusi (Kondo) spends his days drinking in the ramshackle bar owned by his mistress. When she puts the squeeze on him for cash, both Fatuma’s harvest and Neema’s future are fatefully at risk. In Swahili with English subtitles. DCP digital. (BS)
