"Black as pitch at its very heart, and it takes no prisoners…Donlon gives a furious, barnstorming performance." - E.J. Oakley, The Panoptic
The adult son of an elderly baseball legend replays the conflicts and resentments of a lifetime in this gripping drama set at the receding border of the pro sports world. At the age of 33, minor-league player Phil Harding (Chicago theater veteran Donlon), aging out of a young man's game and given the boot by his brutally honest coach (Hudson), slinks back to L.A. to juggle his fractured life with an ex, a kid, a lap-dancer girlfriend, and a cranky dad in failing health. Broke and hell-bent on financing private coaching for one more crack at the majors, Phil takes a risky dive into the underworld in a search for cash that leads him back home to devise a heartless scheme. Lewis, seen in his final role, is the perfect foil to Donlon's reckless raging loser, and he gives an achingly vulnerable performance as a man teetering on the brink of dementia and torn between pity and tough love for his son.
