Four male friends, married high school teachers on the brink of mid-life crisis, vow to test a pseudo-scientific theory that humans function at peak capacity only by maintaining a minimum blood-alcohol level. Martin (international Danish star Mikkelsen), initially the most dubious, becomes the most susceptible when his new secret regime of daily drinking brings him a heightened zest for living in everything from his stale marriage to his teaching career. Director Vinterberg (THE HUNT, CELEBRATION) mines the social and psychological complexities as the initial euphoria that buoys the experiment begins to take its tragicomic toll on marriages, careers, and the bonds of friendship.
