“A gripping modern riff on GOODFELLAS…a familiar but arrestingly visceral crime story with a coming of age twist.”—David Ehrlich, Indiewire
“Feels raw and dangerous and alive with unknowable potential.”—Jessica Kiang, Variety

Based on the novel by Roberto Saviano, writer of GOMORRAH, this colorfully evocative tale of a young mobster’s rise and fall takes its ruthless story from the streets of Naples, where underage youth gangs are routinely groomed for the Mafia. When his single mother, a dry-cleaner, suffers weekly shakedowns for protection money, cocky fifteen-year-old Nicola (Di Napoli) muscles into gang territory with an audacious heist that becomes his audition for the role of gang foot soldier. Utilizing first-time actors (including impressively confident newcomer Di Napoli), director Giovanessi (FIORE) captures the bumbling inexperience and boundless daring of his callow selfie-prone anti-hero, whose wide-eyed lust for the designer shoes and gilt décor of Mafia chiefs drives his overreaching ambition. An alliance of convenience with the son of a fallen don leads to savage success, but at a price. In Neapolitan with English subtitles. DCP digital widescreen. (BS)
