“A swoon-worthy romance on par with LOVE JONES…the kind of film that makes it feel like anything is possible for those who made it.”—Stephen Saito, The Moveable Feast
"Rapturous...Just take my word for it, PREMATURE is one of the year's very best films."—Andrea Gronvall, Chicago Reader
In this heady but thoroughly grounded coming-of-age tale, a transformative summer brings adult choices for Ayanna (Howard, in a star-making performance), headed for college in the fall and experiencing the bittersweet side of love for the first time. Despite her initial reservations, the goal-focused 18-year-old aspiring poet falls into an intensely erotic relationship with handsome, twenty-something music producer Isaiah (Boone). Intoxicating days and nights in bed open up a new world of grown-up freedom, but that freedom comes with an ice-cold side of responsibility. Ayanna comes into conflict with her worried mother, faces the reality that her loving man has a past, and is brought up short by an unanticipated development that may change everything.
