"BIRD would make a pretty good stage musical, not just because people always seem to be singing, but because it’s achingly, heartbreakingly sincere, and for a character living in chaos, that sincerity can feel like magic.” - Alissa Wilkinson, New York Times
"Rolling up several of the themes that have caught Arnold’s attention over the years, including the animalistic turn of her previous feature, the 2021 documentary COW, BIRD feels like a return that is also a step forward, and should resonate with audiences perhaps even more strongly than AMERICAN HONEY." - Lee Marshall, Screen International
12-year-old Bailey lives with her single dad Bug (Barry Keoghan, SALTBURN) and brother Hunter in a squat in North Kent. Bug is a good man but doesn’t have much time for his kids, and Bailey seeks attention and adventure elsewhere. When she meets a kind drifter (Franz Rogowski, PASSAGES), something seems off, and incredible things begin to happen as the film shifts gears to magical realism in a manner that only a filmmaker like Andrea Arnold could pull off.
