Post-screening Q&A with director Soda Jerk.

"Soda Jerk aren’t in the business of pushing false hope, but their sheer unadulterated brilliance will make you feel better about despairing for our future. And that’s genius." - Stephen A. Russell, Time Out

"Soda Jerk addresses both the significance and shallowness of pop culture, a balance they strike almost perfectly to craft one of the year’s most distinctive cinematic events." - James Hanton, Starburst

Wednesday, September 13, 7:30 p.m. | The 30th annual Chicago Underground Film Festival kicks off at the Film Center with an opening reception followed by a 7:30PM presentation of Soda Jerk’s award-winning HELLO DANKNESS. Composed entirely of hundreds of pirated film samples, HELLO DANKNESS is a bent suburban musical that bears witness to the psychotropic cultural spectacle of the period 2016 to 2021. Set in the American suburbs, the film follows a neighborhood through these years as consensus reality disintegrates into conspiracies and other political contagions. Part political satire, zombie stoner film, and Greek tragedy, the work is also informed by the encrypted memetics of contemporary internet culture. (CUFF) Post-screening Q&A with director Soda Jerk.
