BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN

The iconic look of the titular BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN was described by Roger Ebert as "one of the immortal images of the cinema.” Director James Whale and Universal’s makeup artist Jack Pierce crafted a look so sartorially striking that it inspires imitators even 90 years on. The sequel finds Frankenstein under the control of his former mentor, Dr. Pretorius, who insists the recovering doctor resume his experiments in creating new life by making a mate for the monster. Meanwhile, the Monster (the unforgettable Boris Karloff) hides out with a blind hermit who treats him kindly and teaches him basic words. A blind date with destiny is in the works, but will the monster find the acceptance he desires?

From early cinema’s demons to Universal’s classic creatures to Toho’s city-destroying kaiju to countless contemporary permutations of all of the above, Creature Features showcase cinema’s incredible ability to transform a character into an irresistible other. The eight films in this series trace creature-making craftsmanship from in-camera practical effects to digitally-enhanced creature augmentation and offer a slate of scary and sweet strangers to match every spooky season mood.
