Opens October 24 | Palme d’Or winner director Cristian Mungiu returns with his first English-language feature, a thought-provoking family drama starring Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve. The Gheorghius, a devout family led by Romanian father Mihai (Stan) and Norwegian mother Lisbet (Reinsve) leave Romania to resettle in a Norwegian village set in a distant fjord. Despite their different upbringings the Gheorghius children bond with the children of a neighboring family, the Halbergs. When adolescent Elia Gheorghiu shows up at school with some bruises on her body, the community suspects the traditional education that the Gheorghiu children get from their parents to be the cause. When local authorities intervene, the family is plunged into a chaotic legal and social battle under tight community scrutiny. As the conflict grows, both families must confront their own views on family, freedom, and progress.
