Saturday, June 6, 2:30 p.m. & Thursday, June 11, 8:15 p.m. | A critique of a materialistic post-revolution Iranian society, KILLING MAD DOGS follows a woman who attempts to save her bankrupt husband from debt and imprisonment by confronting his corrupt, misogynistic business partners. Businessman Nasser discovers that his partner has been laundering money and flees the city with the police in pursuit. A year later, his wife Golrokh returns from a long absence to find him gone and herself burdened with his debts. As she searches for answers, a meeting with his former partner reveals the truth behind his disappearance. This tense drama was widely celebrated for its meticulous theatrical style and its portrayal of a strong female protagonist, played with fierce intensity by Mojdeh Shamsaie. For the 37th year of the Festival of Films from Iran, we’re honoring influential Iranian filmmaker Bahram Beyzaie with a limited retrospective and presenting a slate of compelling contemporary films by Iranian and Iranian-diaspora filmmakers.
