Tuesday, September 17, 6:00 p.m. | Pioneers of animation in China, twins Wan Guchan and Wan Laiming created PRINCESS IRON FAN in the midst of the Second Sino-Japanese War and shortly before the United States entered World War II. Deemed the first animated feature film in Asia, the Wan Brothers’ classic envisions an episode from the medieval Chinese novel Journey to the West, in which a climate-change-style crisis threatens the humanity over which gods and goddesses keep strategic watch.
Propaganda and Counterculture Lecture Series: From the intricate relationship between propaganda, colonialism, imperialism, and globalization we will investigate the complexities of official politics and grassroots movements. This series offers a unique exploration of how film shapes and reflects the socio-political landscapes of our world.
